FireQA at the Fire NZ Conference 2024 in Wellington: Key Highlights and Takeaways

FireQA had a fantastic time at this year’s Fire NZ conference in Wellington. The event continues to grow each year, providing invaluable opportunities to connect with suppliers, engineers, and industry leaders. Here are some key insights from our time at the conference:

The Fire Engineers Get it

Demonstrating FireQA to fire engineers was a highlight. They quickly saw the depth of detail our app captures for passive fire installations and intumescent coatings, realising how much it can streamline sign-offs. It was a “wow” moment for them, and great validation for us.

Monitoring Access—A Game-Changer for Engineers

Engineers were enthusiastic about FireQA’s free monitoring setup, which lets them remotely check installations without needing a site visit. With limitations on the number of visits they can make per project, this feature offers a huge advantage—allowing for a quick 10-minute review without battling traffic. This time-saving feature means engineers can stay informed and conduct more checks throughout the project lifecycle.

Suppliers Appreciate Data Sheets in the App

Suppliers loved seeing their data sheets directly in the app, knowing that this ensures correct product installation. When installers have access to the exact specifications and images, the quality of work improves, and the supplier's products are installed correctly from the start. It’s reassuring to suppliers that their products will perform as intended in a fire event, thanks to accurate installations.

Installers Benefit from Site Plan Functionality

Installers were impressed with how seamlessly they could work from the site plan in the app. By pinpointing each penetration, dropping a pin, and adding all necessary details, they streamline the documentation process. And when rework is required, they can easily locate specific penetrations, making the process efficient and straightforward.

Lessons from Grenfell and Loafers Lodge

The tragic events at Grenfell Tower and Loafers Lodge were prominent topics, underscoring the importance of rigorous inspections and documentation. These incidents have led to a heightened commitment to safety, with inspectors and surveyors taking more photos, noting defects, and enhancing overall duty of care.

Top-Notch Networking and Organization

Fire NZ’s conference organisation was superb. The Whova app, insightful speakers, and excellent coffee kept everything running smoothly. It was a valuable chance to connect with colleagues across different sectors and share knowledge. Hats off to Fire NZ for a job well done!

To sum up, Fire NZ was a blast. We got valuable feedback, met some great people, and walked away feeling even more fired up (no pun intended) about helping the industry stay compliant and efficient.
