1.  TERM

Smart Pin Technology is FireQA's proprietary QR-code labelling system that assigns a unique, scannable identifier to each fire penetration or firestopping installation, creating a permanent physical-to-digital link to the installation's compliance record.

2.  PURPOSE

Smart Pin Technology solves the single most common failure point in passive fire compliance: the inability to connect a physical penetration location to its installation record after the work is complete.

By applying a durable, printed QR-code label to each penetration at the time of installation, FireQA creates a traceable chain from the physical building element to the digital passive fire register — enabling rapid retrieval, audit verification, and ongoing maintenance tracking without relying on manual cross-referencing.

3.  SCOPE

Smart Pin Technology applies to all fire penetrations, firestopping installations, and coated structural elements logged within FireQA where physical labelling is required for audit, certification, or maintenance purposes.

Labels are printed on site using a Zebra ZQ520 Bluetooth label printer paired with the FireQA mobile application.

4.  COMPONENTS

  • Unique QR code generated per penetration within the FireQA app

  • Label format includes: penetration ID, building reference, installation date, and installer code

  • Zebra ZQ520 Bluetooth label printer integration — prints directly from the FireQA mobile app on site

  • QR scan function in the FireQA app — retrieves full installation record including photos, materials, and compliance status

  • Persistent link between physical label and digital register entry — survives building handover and ownership changes

5.  OUTPUTS

  • Printed QR-code label applied to each penetration or installation on site

  • Digital penetration record retrievable by scanning the label in the FireQA app
